HAMILTON – Two Norwich Indoor Track records were broken while two more were set on Tuesday at the John DiMao Memorial Invitational, held at Colgate University. Both the Purple Tornado and the Sherburne-Earlville indoor track teams competed in the meet.

The Norwich 4x200 meter relay team of David Berger, Eric Conant, Nik Barber and Gabe Gawronski topped the record they set a year ago by a half of a second, taking first place in the boys division-I race with a time of 1:34.72. Their finish was three seconds faster than the second place team from Cazenovia.

Unlike the boys team which has competed together for over a year now, the girls 4x200 for Norwich ran together for the first time. Katie Gawronski, Lucie Martin, Angela Carlson and Riley Marsh crossed the finish line with a time of 1:57.26 for second place in the event. With their time, the foursome were two seconds away from breaking the school record set in 2016.

The Purple Tornado’s Katie Gawronski broke a five year old record by more than 10 seconds. The record was held by Kristen Slate at 2:41.3 prior to Tuesday, when Katie Gawronksi finished with a time of 2:31.99 and placed third in the event. The winner ran a time of 2:22.68.
