HARPURSVILLE – Nearly every member of the Greene Trojans’ roster scored a basket in their 70-29 team win over the host Hornets of Harpursville Tuesday, a Midstate Athletic Conference contest.
Nate Barry of the Trojans had a big game for his team, scoring 12 of his game-high 19 points in the first half as the Greene created a 33-19 lead by halftime.
The full court pressure by the Trojans in the first half caused many turnovers by the Hornets, leading to points on the scoreboard for the visiting team. Greene’s head coach Chris Rice stated that his team had many opportunities out of the aggressive press but his team missed many layups.
Harpursville scored 15 in the second quarter – their largest offensive production in any of the four quarters – to chip away at the 13 point lead the Trojans created after the first. The Hornets received nine of those points from behind the 3-point arc as Dylan Hagerman drained two and Eric Wilkinson saw one go through the night.
The strong team defense showing by Greene continued in the second half, holding Harpursville to a total of 10 points in the second half.
As they were able to reduce their turnovers compared to the last game the Trojans played, Greene controlled the tempo of the contest. Seven different players scored a bucket in the third quarter as the visiting team put up 26 points in the eight minute stretch.
