GREENE – It was Senior Recognition Night at Greene, but freshmen Abram Parsons, Tyler Brown and Brady Smith came up big Wednesday in Greene/Oxford’s 55-27 Section Four wrestling victory over Maine-Endwell.
Parsons picked up his first varsity victory with a 9-1 decision over Garrett Ellis at 220 pounds. Parsons won a few JV matches, but Greene/Oxford co-coach Jesse Fendryk said he put it all together Wednesday night.
“It was a textbook, technical wrestling match for Abram,” Fendryk said. “It was impressive to watch.”
Parsons secured a late takedown in the first period to break a scoreless stalemate and pushed his lead to 7-1 after two periods.
Brown, wrestling at 120 pounds, avenged an 8-5 loss to Payton Bennett a week ago with a 4-3 decision in the final match of the evening.
Scoreless after two periods, Brown scored a two-point takedown early in the third only to see Bennett quickly tie the match with a reversal. Brown turned the tables back on Bennett with less than a minute to go with a reversal then held off Bennett, who recorded an escape with 15.4 seconds to go but could not get a takedown.
“It was a nice bounce-back victory for Tyler after losing to (Bennett a week ago),” Fendryk said.
Smith opened the evening with a 13-second pin of Ryan David-Kadaronak. Smith got David-Kadaronak on his back shortly after the whistle and picked up the quickest stick of the match.
