SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville’s Hunter Lane needed 12 points entering Friday’s game against Sauquoit Valley to reach the 1,000 point career milestone.
Lane scored 10 of those points in the first quarter, helping the Marauders keep the game close with the Indians.
As he drove through the Sauquoit Valley team in the early minutes of the second quarter, Lane finished the layup for the final points needed as the crowd erupted with cheers.
As a timeout was called to honor the moment, his team rushed over to him to celebrate while head coach Kevin Vibbard and the Marauders’ senior embraced in a hug.
“The most remarkable thing about Hunter is that he has scored in double figures in all but six games in his three-year varsity career,” said Vibbard. “Two of those were the first two games of his sophomore year. He has a scorers mentality.”
Once the monkey was off his back, Lane and the rest of the team went on the win 73-64. The Sherburne-Earlville senior poured in 38 points to lead all scorers in the game.
