NORWICH – The Purple Tornado’s Sydney Coggins went 7-for-7 behind the 3-point arc, scoring a game-high 21 in Norwich’s 70-23 win over the visiting Windsor Black Knights Monday night.
Coggins knocked down at least one long ball in each of the four quarters of play and her highest producing stanza was the third when she drained three 3-pointers for nine points.
Norwich opened up the game with a 27 point first quarter as eight different players record points and all 12 on the roster saw playing time in the first eight minutes.
The intense full-court pressure defense by the Tornado contributed to the early double-digit lead. By the end of the first quarter, Norwich head coach Josh Bennett called off the press and dropped back into a half-court defense.
A low scoring second quarter between the two teams was closed out with Windsor going on a 6-0 but Coggins ended it with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer as the two teams went into the halftime break.
The Purple Tornado came out of the intermission and put up another big quarter, scoring 22 points as a team in the third, to extend their lead to 41.
Norwich controlled the glass throughout, grabbing more rebounds than Windsor at both ends of the floor and pushed the tempo. The Tornado also shared the ball well, distributing several assists as the players dished the ball to the open teammate on most of the baskets scored by the home team.
