NEW BERLIN – Trailing Oxford by 13 at the half, Unadilla Valley’s head coach Matt Osborne knew he needed to something different to get his team back into the game. Switching to a full-court press on defense was the answer as the Storm limited the Blackhawks to 21 second-half points to come away with the 57-51 Midstate Athletic Conference and senior night win.

Oxford was paced by Jason Davis and Jacob Murrer in the opening half as the two combined for 27 of the Blackhawks’ 30 points.

Using the full-court press in the second half, Unadilla Valley was able to get some easy baskets in transition, leading to their eventual take over of the game.

Oxford clung to their six point lead entering the fourth quarter but the Storm’s Andrew Jackson scored a crucial 12 points in the final eight minutes of play, allowing UV to take the late-game lead and hold on for the final minutes.

Jackson finished the game with 25 to lead all scorers. He also pulled in eight rebounds.

Levi Rifanburg of the Storm scored eight of his 18 points in the first stanza to keep UV within three points of Oxford. He grabbed seven boards off the glass.

Oxford’s Davis poured in a team-high 20 points and recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds. Jacob Murrer scored 18 points, a season-best for the Blackhawks shooting guard. Their teammate C.J. Smith pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.

Playing in their final regular season home game Thursday night, Oxford will host Bainbridge for a 7:15 p.m. game time. Blackhawks’ head coach Tim Davis will honor his seniors prior to the start of the game.

Storm’s head coach Matt Osborne recognized his six seniors – Andrew Jackson, Levi Rifanburg, Wyatt Grey, Tom Gillette, Spencer Meade and McCoy Davis – before Wednesday’s game.

Unadilla Valley (13-5, 8-1) waits for their seed in the Midstate Athletic Conference to determine their opponent for Tuesday night’s opening round game.
