BINGHAMTON – Despite the strong second-half effort by the Purple Tornado, Norwich fell to the Seton Catholic Saints Thursday night, 74-57.

Trailing by 12 after the first quarter, the Tornado squad never showed signs of giving up. Pulling together in the second, Norwich was able to get their offense going and put 20 points on the scoreboard in the stanza.

Out of the break, the Purple Tornado out scored the Saints to pull the game within nine points. Jumpstarting their rally in the quarter were the 3-pointers made by Carson Maynard and Marcus Cashman – Norwich’s 1-2 punch from long-range.

Also aiding in the third quarter run was Carson Thornton. Recently moved up to the varsity squad, Thornton finished with five points that came in the third but Collier stated he produced good minutes on the floor in the first quarter as well.

In the fourth, the Saints pulled away for good as they scored 22 in the quarter for the 17 point victory. Seton Catholic forced 23 Norwich turnovers throughout the game, converting on the offense end of the floor.

“Seton is one of the top teams in our league,” said Norwich head coach Tom Collier. “Not many teams win in their gym. We gave a tremendous effort in the second half. Although we fell short, we never quit and I’m very proud of the team. The seeds to victory are often sown in defeat. We got some great contributions off the bench in critical spots.”
