NORWICH – A Norwich man pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter Friday morning and was sentenced to a minimum of three-and-a-half years in prison after he caused the death of his one year old daughter.
Devan Ellsworth, 28, of Norwich pleaded guilty with the court accepting an Alford plea to second-degree manslaughter, a class C felony.
As part of his plea agreement, Ellsworth will serve between three-and-a-half to seven years in prison.
Several individuals including the victim's mother, Ellsworth himself, and District Attorney Michael Ferrarese spoke on the case.
"Only Devan knows exactly what he did to cause the death of his daughter," said Ferrarese. "I pray he becomes a better person when he gets out of prison."
