SHERBURNE – After holding a seven point lead over Bishop Grimes at the end of the first half, the Lady Marauders believed they had a chance to win the opening round, Section III Class B contest. However, Sherburne-Earlville went cold in the third quarter and the Cobras took over, winning 54-48 to move on in the tournament.

The Marauders jumped out to a four point lead, starting off hot. Continuing that into the second quarter, S-E extended the margin by three points to lead 25-18.

Following the halftime break, the Cobras went on a big run, overcoming the Marauders lead to go ahead by three points.

In the fourth quarter, the two teams battled for their place into the Section III tournament. Nearly matching point for point, the Marauders fought back, making an attempt at the comeback.

Unfortunately, S-E’s comeback fell short as Bishop Grimes outscored the home team 17-14 to hold onto their third quarter lead to win by six.

Sherburne-Earlville was better at the free throw line than the Cobras, knocking down 15 freebies to Bishop Grimes’ 13 but it was the made buckets from the floor that held the advantage for the visiting team.

Leading the Marauders in the scoring column was senior Kaitlyn Furner, ending the final game of her career at S-E with 22 points.
