BINGHAMTON – For the fifth straight year, the Lady Bobcats of Bainbridge-Guilford earned bragging rights among the Midstate Athletic Conference with their 53-42 win over the Unatego Spartans in the championship game at Binghamton University Events Center Friday night.
B-G, like they have in several big games this season, got off to a hot start early behind the 3-point shooting of Macie Leizear and Erica Selfridge.
The Bobcats led 13-8 after the first due to Leizer’s two 3’s and Selfridge’s one made from behind the line. Abi Selfridge shot 4-for-5 at the foul line in the same quarter, aiding in the early lead by the defending champions.
The three combined to score all 14 points in the second quarter while the defensive effort by all Bobcats held the Spartans to just four points.
Most of the scoring effort for Unatego came by way of the Perry twins – Meghan and Morgan – but the two were faced with foul trouble for the extent of the game. The Spartan sisters combined to score 12 points, six point each.
After leading by 15 at halftime, the Bobcats came out in the third and added 12 points to their score. Minus a 3-pointer and a bucket from the floor by Erica Selfridge, the points for Bainbridge-Guilford came at the foul line in the stanza. 22 of the Bobcats’ points came by free throws (22-of-29) in the game.
