CHENANGO COUNTY – Two brothers from the City of Cortland are facing burglary charges after they allegedly broke into homes during the daytime, stole items including firearms, and were captured after a detective recovered their DNA at a crime scene.

Michael R. Maricle, 20, and Matthew T. Maricle, 24, both of the City of Cortland are facing two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree burglary. Officials said other charges may be pending as the investigation is ongoing.

According to Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting, members of the Chenango County Sheriff's Office Detectives Division arrested brothers Michael and Matthew Maricle for committing multiple burglaries in the Towns of Pharsalia and Plymouth.

"The arrests stemmed from a joint investigation with the New York State Police, Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, and Cortland County Sheriff’s Office," said Cutting. "It is alleged that the brothers made forced entry to homes in Plymouth and Pharsalia, once inside the residence the defendants stole several items to include firearms."
