NORWICH – The Norwich Jewish Center invites the community to join them in a day of remembrance Sunday.
Marking the 2019 Holocaust Remembrance Day, the center will host a guest speaker and refreshments.
The Days of Remembrance – Yom HaShoah will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28 at The Norwich Jewish Center, located at 72 South Broad Street, Norwich. This event is open to the public. There is no charge, but food donations will be accepted for a local food bank.
Every year, the Jewish people of the world mark the anniversary of the six million who perished at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators with the Days of Remembrance or Yom HaShoah. We mourn the loss of loved ones who perished. We reflect on the families who never were or at best were never the same.
Through our Days of Remembrance…we seek to both commemorate this tragic time in history, and to reflect on the lessons they hold for our lives today. With the recent rise of anti-Semitism in the world, it is more important than ever to stand against injustice and hatred. Indeed with the rise of marginalizing anyone who can be labeled “the other”, it is more important then ever to stand against injustice and hatred.
Whether through strength, determination, or fate; survivors transitioned from darkness to light, rebuilding their lives and communities.
The Norwich Jewish Center will host Eric Cohen from Pittsburgh, PA as our speaker for this year, Days of Remembrance. Eric is a member of a synagogue at the Tree of Life Congregation. He will speak of the impact the murders at his congregation in October 2018 had on Pittsburgh, the Jewish community of Pittsburgh and himself. He will discuss how the Jewish community is transitioning from darkness to light…rebuilding their lives.
