Marauders improve to 6 wins; Afton and B-G fall
WHITNEY POINT – The Lady Trojans improved to 10-1 on the season behind eighth-grader Payton Yahner’s arm as she threw the first no-hitter of her young career. Greene won the game by a final score of 26-2 Monday afternoon.
Earning her second victory of the season, Yahner used seven strikeouts in the process. She also helped her own cause on the mound as she had four hits in the batters box, resulting in four RBIs and four scored runs for the Trojans.
Greene senior McKenna Sergi led the offense with four hits while scoring five runs.
The Trojans scored six runs to open the game and added two in the second. In the third, the visiting team put the contest well out of reach, scoring 11 runs in the frame. They added seven over the course of the final two innings.
Whitney Point scored two in the bottom of the first inning by several walks allowed by the young Greene pitcher. However, once Yahner settled in, the home Eagles did not register another run in the game.
Greene will face a test to their schedule on Tuesday when they take on Makenzie Stiles and the rest of the Deposit team at 4:30 p.m.
