Boyfriend Of Recently Deceased Oxford Teen Held Over Probation Charge

SMITHVILLE – The Chenango County Sheriff's office has arrested a Smithville man for violating his probation. The teen was one of two people inside a Smithville home Friday when another Oxford teen was found dead of a reported gunshot.

Police declined to comment if the arrest was linked to the death investigation.

Police have not named any suspects in the investigation and have not yet determined the manner of death.

On Friday, May 3, police responded to a call that was initially reported to be a death involving a firearm at 36 Water Street in the Town of Smithville. There police discovered the body of Amelia Wakefield, 16, from the Village of Oxford.

In the following days investigators said the death was not a suicide or natural.

According to police, at the time they arrived two other people where also inside the home, the victim's boyfriend and the boyfriend's mother.
