MOUNT MARKHAM – The Lady Marauders brought their bats to Mount Markham on Wednesday night, compiling 15 hits to score 13 runs for the big win. Sherburne-Earlville, who needed the win over Mount Markham to make the Section III tournament, bounced back after a 9-3 loss Tuesday night against Cooperstown.
Bailey Lagoe of the Marauders went 4-for-4 at the plate and recorded three RBIs in the win. She also scored three runs in the game, crossing home plate the most of any of the Marauders.
Teammate Tessa Cole came away with four hits as well, stepping into the batter’s box five times throughout the contest. Also producing three RBIs for S-E, Cole’s last one came on a sacrifice fly ball to left field, scoring a tagging Lagoe from third.
The Marauders’ Brooke Hailston pitched a gem in the circle, tossing a complete game allowing just two runs on six hits and striking out five.
Sherburne-Earlville and Mount Markham were scoreless through the first two innings of play but the Marauders opened up the game with 10 runs in the top of the third, pulling away early. Mount Markham scored one run in the bottom half of the frame, but S-E answered their run in the fourth inning with two more runs.
The Marauders added one more in the top of the seventh on Cole’s sac fly.
