CHENANGO COUNTY – After passing a resolution opposing the, Driver's License Access and Privacy Act, also known as the, "Green Light Bill," Chenango County officials debated if they should continue to oppose it, if it comes into law.

According to a statement from the New York State Senate, bill number S1747B, the Green Light Bill, was created in response to the need to secure driving privileges for all residents of New York, including undocumented immigrants, which they said has been a long term effort that has reached the pinnacle of urgency.

Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting Jr. spoke on the bill, stating that as it was originally written, the bill wouldn't allow law enforcement to look up department of motor vehicle records.

"It made no sense, the bill took away law enforcement's ability to look up DMV records, which is why the Chenango County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution opposing it," said Cutting. "Since then, I believe they have changed that portion of the bill, but I think some of these things are just sliding down the hill, and someone needs to put the brakes on."

He said with changes like these being made overnight, many taxpayers are and should be outraged.
