27-game win streak ended against Greene
BAINBRIDGE – After dropping their second game of the season in a tight contest to Greene, the Norwich PONY league team has now created a new win streak. While the number isn’t 20-plus in-a-row, it is now two straight victories after Norwich topped Bainbridge-Guilford Monday night 9-0.
Torin Lawrence tossed six and two-thirds on his way to a one-hitter, striking out 14 during his time on the mound. At the plate, Lawrence helped himself as he drew three walks and had one hit with one RBI.
Leading Norwich offensively was Trey Bates, who went 3-for-5 with a RBI and Logan Ford, ending the day with two hits in four plate appearances. Ford also batted three teammates into score.
Norwich got the scoring going early, putting up four runs in the top half of the first inning. Throughout the remainder of the game, Norwich was held scoreless in just the third and fifth innings while Lawrence, who threw 61 strikes out of 89 pitches, kept Bainbridge-Guilford off the base paths.
The Norwich hurler saw 10 B-G batters before Jose Bivar reached first due to a walk but still had the no-hitter bid going.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Bainbridge-Guilford’s Nolan Hawkins sent a hard ground ball through the middle of the infield to break-up Lawrence’s no-hitter. Following the hit, the Norwich pitcher tossed four straight strikeouts before being pulled for the last batter.
