Cashman fans 15 over 6, Osborne hits HR
WINDSOR – After 10 days of rain and dropping four straight games, the Chenango County Hellcats American Legion baseball team defeated Harpursville. In the fifth game in seven days, the Hellcats dominated Harpursville Post 1596, winning 12-0. At the end of six innings, with the mercy rule enacted, starting pitcher Marcus Cashman (Norwich) had fanned 15 batters.
The Hellcats jumped on the Harpursville pitchers right away, putting the ball in play and executing quality at bats as they threatened in the top of the first frame sending five batters to the dish. In the bottom half of the inning, Cashman went right to work, striking out the first lead-off man. Following a walk, the Hellcats starter threw back-to-back strike outs to leave the runner stranded and end the first.
Kegan Wright (Norwich) put the first run on for the Hellcats after a lead off single. Reaching second base on a passed ball, Wright advanced to third on a hard grounder by Josh Christian (Oxford) and was plated by a sacrifice fly by Justin Bates (Norwich). Cashman returned to the hill on the defensive side of the frame to strike out the side.
Leading off the third, Cameron Osborne (Unadilla Valley) sent a hit over the fence in left field to give the Hellcats a 2-0 lead. Cashman preserved that lead, going three batters up and three batters down again.
