NORWICH – The Norwich PONY league baseball team avenged the loss earlier to Greene earlier this season on their home field, winning 6-1 Friday evening.
Torin Lawerence got the start on the mound and pitched six shut-out innings of baseball, striking out eight. In the batter’s box, Lawerence helped his own cause by drawing two walks and scoring two of Norwich’s six runs in the game.
Teammate Mike Hagen reached base all three times he stepped to the plate, reaching once with a walk and came away with two hits while Evan Sylstra went deep for an inside the park home run in the third inning.
Norwich got on the scoreboard first, scoring two in the bottom of the second. Sylstra led the at-bats off with a double to centerfield and Hagen followed it with a hard grounder to the same place.
Kaden Collins drove in Sylstra with sacrifice fly, moving Hagen up to third. Keegan Franklin then ripped a hard ground ball to left field, sending Hagen across the plate for the second run. Franklin ended up with a stand up double.
After Lawerence drew one of his walks, he stole both second and third base. During Trey Bates’ at-bat, Greene’s pitcher threw a wild pitch and Lawerence was able score.
