NORWICH – Mike Hagen and Logan Ford had a big day at the plate for the Norwich PONY league team as the home team came away with a 14-4 win over Sherburne Midstate Monday afternoon.
Both Hagen and Ford went 3-for-4 in the batter’s box, each adding four RBIs to their stat line for the game.
“Mikey did Mikey tonight,” said Norwich head coach Greg Bates. “Logan Ford stayed hot at the plate and also played great behind the plate, showing he is an elite catcher.”
Hagen put Norwich on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning as his first trip to the plate resulted in a double to center field, scoring Kaden Collins from second base.
Ford, the next batter in the home team’s lineup, sent Hagen in to score with a screaming line drive to put Norwich up 2-0. Ford crossed the plate for the third run of the frame by Keegan Franklin’s extra base hit.
Franklin was on the hill to start for Norwich. He picked up the win with six innings of work, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out four Sherburne batters.
Norwich tacked on another six runs in the bottom of the third. Trey Bates led the inning off with a walk and Collins followed with another. Bates and Collins put runners at the corners for the home team after Bates stole both second and third during Collins’ at-bat.
