NORWICH – Down to their last out in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 2-2 score, Norwich’s Logan Ford stepped into the batter’s box. Ford had teammates Torin Lawerence standing on third and Trey Bates waiting at first.

On the second pitch of the at-bat, Ford send a hard ground ball down the third baseline, sneaking past Cherry Valley’s fielder and rolled into the outfield. Lawerence took off down the baseline as soon as the contact on the ball was made, crossing the plate to score the game-winning run.

“It was a crazy game until the end,” said Norwich head coach Greg Bates. “Early on, our hits weren’t falling as we were hitting to the other team. Our players never gave up and just kept grinding to put out the big win. I’m proud of these guys because they didn’t quit.”

After being held scoreless through the first six innings by Cherry Valley, who held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning until the bottom of the seventh when Norwich came back to pull off the comeback win.

Nolan Dodzweit started Norwich’s last chances at the plate with a lead-off line drive to centerfield. He later stole second base, putting him into scoring position for teammate Isaac Bennett. Bennett sent the ball to the exact same place as Dodzweit, giving his teammate enough time to tally Norwich’s first run of the game.
