NORWICH – A Norwich man is facing felony charges after he allegedly stole from a vehicle and then stabbed the person who confronted him 10 times in the head and torso as he attempted to get away.

Gary L. Nichols Jr., 39, of 29 Court St. in Norwich, was charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, petit larceny, trespass, and first-degree escape.

Norwich Police reported that Nichols stabbed one victim and bit another during a confrontation around 2 a.m. Saturday. Nichols was reportedly chased by the homeowners after trespassing on their property on Plymouth Street and searching through their parked vehicle. After the chase, police said a struggle occurred and a victim was stabbed.

According to the release: When officers arrived on the scene, they were directed to a wooded area near the home where the suspect had been chased by the residents. A short distance from the home, the officers located the suspect and one of the individuals that had given chase.
