NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department is warning city residents to keep their vehicles locked and review security camera footage for trespassers as nighttime lawn thefts and vehicle break-ins are on the rise.
According to NPD Deputy Chief Scott Burlison, many thefts can be deterred by locking doors, investing in security systems, and by being aware of who is on your property.
"If you see someone walking down the street with a lawn chair in the middle of the night, that very well might be a clue that there's been a theft," said Burlison. "If you hear or see something suspicious, call us so we can send a patrol over to check things out."
He said a rise in break-ins isn't uncommon once the summer hits, and the majority of thefts have occurred at night in the southern part of the city.
"Bring in your valuables from your vehicles, and keep your doors locked," said Burlison. "I would also encourage that if there is any kind of larceny from your property to let us know.
