NORWICH – Police have arrested a suspect in a possible group assault that left the victim lying in the street with a cracked skull and permanently blinded in one eye.

Jonathan R. Booker, 27, of 74 Birdsall St. in Norwich, was charged with first-degree assault, a class B felony, after police said he and at least one other person intentionally sought to inflict serious or permanent physical injuries to the victim.

According to police the victim was beaten senseless by a group of men for several minutes, even after he fell to the ground along Lackawanna Avenue in downtown Norwich.

Norwich Assistant Chief Burlison states, "At this time, there is an active arrest warrant for a second individual and the investigation is ongoing."
