OXFORD – The late Bill Carson has always said it best: “You want to be better at putting, hit is closer to the hole.”

Patti Giltner and Vickie Burton both were better putters earlier this month as the two recorded their first hole-in-one at Blue Stone Golf Course, both coming on the par-3 seventh hole of the course.

Giltner’s came during a Monday night league match where she was playing with her partner Carolyn Hunter and playing against opponents Theresa Backo and Terri Jackson.

Giltner said that her tee shot felt good but didn’t think it was good enough to drop in the cup like it did. All four watched as her ball soared through the air, drop onto the green and roll into the cup.

Burton, who used a 7-iron on the 125-yard par-3, was playing in a Sunday Scramble that the course holds. With teammates Barry Betts, Jim Lashway and Mike Jones looking on, Burton’s ball only needed one shot to score on the hole.
