SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders hosted rival Canastota Red Raiders, for the first home league game of the 2019 season Thursday afternoon. With a final score of 3-1 favoring the Marauders, the S-E soccer club improves to 2-0 in league play.

Sherburne-Earlville’s offense is currently clicking as the squad has scored a total of 10 goals in the first two league games of the year.

Recording his first goal of the season, S-E’s Layne Sulton opened up the scoring in the contest when he received Keegan Kane’s far post cross ball and riffled the ball home for the 1-0 score.

The score remained the same one goal difference for the rest of the half and into the break.

The Marauders added a second goal early in the second as first-year player Gabe Irwin sent a pass that split the Red Raider defense and found teammate Brogan Winton, who then fired a lob ball over the head of Canastota’s goalie Jonathan Bovair’s and into the far corner of the goal.

Seven minutes later, Sulton delivered a pass to Nate Morgan of the home team. Morgan then chipped a shot over the keeper’s head, providing a second insurance goal for the Marauders.

Canastota senior Josh Heckerman scored in the final minute of the game as his shot was too much for Marauders’ goalkeeper Zach Trass to handle.
