HOLLAND PATENT – The Marauders fell short against another Center State Conference (CSC) opponent, losing 1-0 to the Holland Patent Golden Knights Wednesday afternoon. It was Sherburne-Earlville’s third straight game falling by a single goal, dropping S-E’s record to 2-4-1 (2-2 in league play).

The Marauders held the shot advantage over the Golden Knights 9-4 and each team had three corner kicks during the game.

S-E head coach Michael Rodriguez stated after the game the team was the more dominant team in regards to possession and opportunities on goal but were not able to capitalize on the scoring chances created.

The first half ended with both teams unable to find the back of the net. In the set 45 minutes of play, Holland Patent’s Sawyer Locke defeated the team and put the ball past S-E’s keeper Zach Trass for the eventual game winner.

“Having played on the road in three successive games, we have played well,” Rodriguez said. “We were dominant against West Canada and Holland Patent and fell short 1-0 to both teams. We played a great game against the [CSC Division 1] league leading and defending champions], the Clinton Warriors, and lost 2-1.

“We are doing everything right except finishing on the great offensive opportunities that we have created. We need to fix that part of our game quickly.”
