NEW BERLIN – Friday night saw Unadilla Valley’s Dylan Nichols inch even closer to the school’s scoring record as he put two into the back of the net in the Storm’s 4-1 win over inter-county foe, the Norwich Purple Tornado.
Wearing the pink jersey’s under the lights for the “Kick for the Cure” annual game, UV was held scoreless in the first half while Norwich scored the first goal of the 2019 season as Gabe Sutton fired a corner kick into the box for the Tornado. Getting a head on it was teammate Cooper Burton, who nearly put the ball into the goal over the reaching Brandon Kneale of the Storm.
As the ball bounced off the crossbar after Burton’s header, Norwich stayed with the play and Andrew Mullen tapped it into the net for the 1-0 advantage with 25 minutes remaining in the first half.
Down 1-0 at home at halftime, the Storm head coach Ryan Houck and his team went back to the drawing board. Following the intermission, UV made adjustments and it was visible the home team was a different squad in the second half.
Just three minutes in, Nichols took a Brandon Kneale punt for the one-on-one situation with the Tornado’s young keeper Athen Genute and recorded his first goal, tying the game.
15 minutes later, the Storm scored the goal head goal as a long free kick by defender Cameron Osborne found Geordan Keach, who turned and knocked the ball home.
