S-E scoring woes continue in 1-0 loss to Wildcats
NEW BERLIN – The Storm’s Dylan Nichols went into Tuesday’s soccer game against Walton on his home pitch needing one goal to tie the school’s goals scored record. Late in the first half, he found the back of the net to tie the record at 45 goals.
In the second half, he broke the record with his second goal and added another three to give him five goals scored on the night and 49 for his career as Unadilla Valley cruised to 6-0 victory over the Walton Warriors.
The Warriors, who have boasted a stout defense all season and who are led by standout goalie Kaiden Vernold, gave the Storm some early hiccups as getting quality shots off proved to be difficult.
Before too long, however, UV’s Devon Fairchild found himself firing a left-footed shot from 16 yards and watched it sail into the net past Vernold.
From there on out the floodgates opened for the Storm as Nichols went on to score five for the six goal shutout win for Unadilla Valley in front of their home crowd.
Nichols didn’t do it alone though, Fairchild connected with his senior teammate on the three of the five goals, bringing his assist total up to 10 for the season.
