Oxford takes three against Greene

ONEONTA – After securing a game one victory over the Oneonta Yellowjackets on the road Thursday night, the Norwich volleyball team lost the next two and were one more game away from being defeated in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference divisional match. The Lady Purple Tornado said not so fast, firing back with two straight wins in sets four and five to return home with a 3-2 victory over their rivals.

The first three games were won by a margin of two or three points but the final two games, where Norwich stole the road win from the host Yellowjackets, were won by a difference of nine (25-16) and 12 points (25-13).

Defensively, the Tornado’s Megan Lindridge and Sam Binelli had a big night on the floor. The two combined for 30 of Norwich’s digs for the match with the freshman libero Lindridge leading the way with 17. Binelli ended the night with 13 and another big contributor was Chloe Winton, saving six points with her dig attempts.

With two blocks and 14 kills, Lauren Squires of the Purple Tornado once again had a strong performance at the net. Squires, one of Norwich’s power hitters this season, also had three aces and two digs.

Dishing out the assists to set up the kill attempts were Maddy Morris and Francesca Salerno. Morris reached double digits with 10 while Salerno finished with seven.
