Coggins records 20th goal of season
NORWICH – Needing to win both games this week to make Section IV playoffs, the Lady Tornado came out on their home pitch ready to secure one of two wins. Norwich needed less than five minutes of play to put one of the six goals the home team scored in the 6-2 win over the Windsor Black Knights Monday night.
Norwich’s Emily Davis fired a cross into the center of the box and waiting for the ball to come to her was teammate Katie Gawronski. Gawronski, a senior midfielder, gathered the bouncing ball and booted a shot over the outstretched arms of the Windsor keeper for the early strike.
Less than 3 minutes later, Norwich’s leading goal scorer Sydney Coggins took a 50/50 ball with one dribble and fired it into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
Norwich controlled the possession for most of the remaining minutes with Windsor getting an occasional run into their offensive third of the field but either team was unable to find the back of the net again in the first half, carrying over the 2-0 score into the second.
