NORWICH – On October 12, in celebration of Path Through History Weekend, the Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) will unveil “Chenango County in Fifty Stories,” on display in the museum’s newly renovated upper west gallery. The vibrant history of Chenango County comes to life in this exhibit featuring unique anecdotes and artifacts of noteworthy people, places, and events of days gone by.

For both aesthetic and safety reasons, the 123-year-old facility has been undergoing some much-needed updating this year. Transformation of the upper west gallery has been made possible thanks to the Patricia M. and H. William Smith Jr. Foundation, as well as over 100 volunteer hours contributed in completing the project.

“We are so grateful that these ambitious facility upgrades are able to continue thanks to generous community support,” said Board Member John Antonowicz. “Very special thanks to Patsy Smith, whose tremendous generosity has made possible a truly one-of-a-kind exhibit illustrating the unique cultural heritage of Chenango County.”

Festivities officially begin at noon, with the Smyrna Citizens Band delivering the first of two performances for the celebration. Ever since its founding by Clarence Parker over 100 years ago, the Smyrna Citizens Band has been in demand to perform concerts throughout the region for a variety of occasions, including a spontaneous parade marking the end of WWII.
