OV’s Reichard scores first two career goals in senior night loss
OXFORD – Hosting one of the two teams tied for second in the Midstate Athletic Conference standings for girls soccer, Oxford took on the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Blackhawks currently sit at the top of the MAC Division-2 standings after the recent streak of wins while the Bobcats at tied with Unadilla Valley for second. The win on Tuesday could have moved B-G into a two-way tie with the Oxford but the Blackhawks denied the chance of that happening with a 2-1 win at home.
The tough, physical game saw no score by either team at the halftime break.
However, five minutes was all that was needed in the second half before the Bobcats’ Kate Roefs sent one past Oxford’s keeper Lexi Kohlhepp for the 1-0 lead.
Nine minutes later, the Blackhawks answered as Ellie Ryan sent a header past B-G’s goalie Brielle Armstrong to tie the game. Ryan’s opportunity came off a corner kick served into the box by Kaylin Tefft.
With under 18 minutes to go in the game, Raven Brophy-Quintana of the home team sent a ball to a streaking and speedy Emily Barrows. Barrows then riffled a shot into the back of the net to give Oxford the lead.
