Oxford shut out by No. 7 Unatego
NEW BERLIN – Scoring with 32 seconds left in the first overtime session, Kyleigh George of the home Unadilla Valley team was the one to put her foot on the ball, sending it into the back of the net for the game-winner over the visiting Greene Trojans.
George’s goal was a rebounded opportunity after a teammate’s first attempt went off the crossbar and bounced around in front of the goal. With a few deflections between Storm and Greene players, the Unadilla Valley senior finally got her foot on the ball to put it past Greene’s keeper.
With another 10 minute session left to play after the goal, UV’s defense held strong to tally another win on their record.
Before the game, the Storm’s head coach Jeanie Potter gave special recognition to her seven seniors – George, Meegan White, Anji Clark, Cassidy Cummings, Alicia Grant, Hayley Merwin and Destiny Merlo – to honor their years of dedication to the program.
Fellow senior Meegan White turned away all Greene shots for three saves and the shut out win.
The Trojans’ Katelyn Pratt made five stops in the loss as the Storm took a total of seven shots for the game.
Unadilla Valley (7-3-1, 6-3-1) travels to Afton/Harpursville for the second part of the Storm’s back-to-back games. Kickoff for the two teams is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
