Greene scores seven, spot in MAC Championship
SHERBURNE – Playing host for the final time of the regular season, the Marauders celebrated and honored the seniors for both teams but recognized Layne Sulton, Jacob Sutherland, Noah Posson, John Oley, Nathan Morgan, and Gabe Irwin for their hardwork and dedication to the program over the years.
Following the special ceremony before the game, the Center State Conference Division-2 leaders , the Waterville Indians and the Marauders took to the pitch. Waterville, who came into the game with 10 wins, spoiled Sherburne-Earlville’s senior night to remain on top of the league standings with the 4-1 win.
Waterville jumped out to a quick start in the match, scoring inside the first ten minutes of the game as Jaxson Sonia ran down and collected a long pass from teammate Austin Hutchins. Dribbling to the 18, Sonia buried his shot attempt inside the far post to give the visiting team a 1-0 advantage.
Shortly after, Marco Barberi’s goal doubled the Waterville lead as his shifty footwork beat several Marauder defenders before sending the shot into the back of the net.
In the second half, Waterville scored in the early as Dylan Williams netted the third goal of the game.
The Marauders ended the shutout when Brogan Winton took Dan Scholl’s cross and took one touch before firing his shot past Cole Pearsall, the Indians’ keeper, to cut the Indians’ lead down to two.
