CHENANGO COUNTY – Six individuals are facing grand jury indictments after allegedly committing crimes including an assault in the Town of Otselic, a burglary in the Town of Smyrna, and two rapes in the City of Norwich.

Howard C. Williams was indicted on two counts of second-degree assault, class D felonies, following an altercation in the Town of Otselic.

According to his indictment, at approximately 10 a.m. on September 11 in the Town of Otselic, while at the Cellular Tower Facility located on Flanagan Road, Williams stabbed a victim three times in the, “right side rib cage area, under the right arm.”

It states that the victim required hospitalization and they suffered from a collapsed lung and rib fracture.

At the time of the arrest Chenango Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting said the men were working together and cutting wire when a conflict broke out between them.

“There was a conflict and he overreacted to it,” said Cutting.

Cutting said Williams fled the scene of the stabbing, but a few hours later was later taken into custody at a motel in the Town of McGraw by members of the New York State Police and Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeremy M. Sawyer was indicted on second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony, after allegedly stealing firearms, gin, and change from a Town of Smyrna residence.
