OWEGO – The Lady Purple Tornado forced a decisive tiebreaker Thursday night against Maine-Endwell after two exciting games against Oneonta at the Section IV Class B semifinal pool play action. However, in the extra game of volleyball, the Spartans took an early 7-3 lead in the first to 25 set and ran away with the win to gain the second spot in the Class B Championship game Saturday.
The host and No. 1 Owego Indians knocked off all three teams in convincing fashion, securing a trip to the Class B title game with a 6-0 pool play record Thursday.
Norwich faced Maine-Endwell in the first two-game match of the night for the Purple Tornado. The two teams split, winning one game each.
The Tornado stayed on the court and immediately went up against host Indians. Both games against Owego started off the way Norwich liked, keeping the set with the defending Section IV champions close but in game one, the Indians went on an 11 point run to bring the score to 16-6.
Owego then closed out game one with a score of 25-13. The Indians carried the momentum that had closed out the first set with and rolled it into the second, taking down the Tornado 25-9.
