NORWICH – A Morris man was sentenced to serve three more months in jail in Chenango County Court on Monday after stabbing a co-worker in May of last year.

Philip C. Cuda, 46, of Morris was charged with assault in the first degree, a class B felony, following an altercation that left a victim hospitalized with stab wounds.

As part of his plea deal, Cuda admitted that on May 28, 2018, in the Town of Norwich, he caused serious physical injuries to a victim by stabbing the victim in the stomach and the back with a knife; resulting in the victim undergoing emergency surgery at UHS Wilson Medical Center.

In court on Monday, Cuda apologized for stabbing the victim, and he was told by officials that he was lucky the victim requested a light sentence.

“I’m sorry for what happened,” said Cuda. “He was a friend of mine – I loved that man.”

Shortly after, Cuda was sentenced to six months in jail followed by five years of post-release supervision.
