Oxford, OV and UV all fall in season debut
SIDNEY – The Marauders of Sherburne-Earlville opened the 2019-2020 season with an overtime win over host Sidney Tuesday night. Outscoring the Warriors 16-5 in the extra minutes of basketball, S-E picked up the non-conference road win.
Sherburne-Earlville, who was lead by Noah Posson’s 16 points, found away to limit Sidney’s Jon Palmatier in overtime. Palmatier led all scorers with 25 points, knocking down three 3-point field goals for nine of his total.
The host Warriors took a 19-13 lead after the first quarter but the Marauders held Sidney to just nine points in the second, tying the game at 28-28 at the halftime break.
The two teams battled back-and-forth for the second half, each matching point totals in the third and fourth quarters to tie the game at 60-60 at the end of regulation.
It was in the overtime session where S-E took over, using the free throw line to capture the victory. The Marauders went 9-for-10 at the foul line and used a 3-pointer by Taylor Grymkowski along with two buckets from the inside by Troy Fleming to outlast their opponents.
