NORWICH – It’s hard to believe that for 25 years, the Parade of Lights has lit up Norwich the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year continued that tradition with 68 participating organization and community groups.
This year the parade recognized the lifetime community work of Evening Sun Photographer Frank Speziale. Speziale, who has taken pictures of the event every year since it started, was instead made the parade grand marshal. He and his family rode in a horse drawn carriage at the front of the parade. Along with Frank was also, Mayor Christine Carnrike and Mayor Elect Shawn Sastri.
The parade had two bands, three horse and carriages, 13 fire trucks, 38 adult Floats, 6 Children Floats and of course the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Santa was dropped off at the Igloo in East Park, where he visited with children. Meanwhile Chobani Yogurt handed out free boxes of the yogurt as a gift to the community following the parade at the East Park Stage.
Over the years, the parade has welcomed Chobani's participation which has proven very popular. The company is headquartered in Columbus.
The Evening Sun and Norwich Pennysaver are grateful for all the support in putting on the parade. It would not be possible without the sponsors and dozens of volunteers, many from our own company and their families.
