GREENE – At approximately 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, a Greene Central School bus traveling on New York State Route 206 near West Bainbridge had a mechanical malfunction, and school officials said no students were injured as a result of the incident.
According to Greene Superintendent of Schools Tim Calice, the bus was in the process of bringing students back to Greene when a mechanical issue caused the bus’s engine to billow smoke.
“The mechanical issue caused smoke/steam to billow from the engine area section of the bus,” said Calice. “The bus immediately pulled over.”
He said he and the school’s transportation supervisor immediately headed to the scene with a school nurse.
“Fire control was alerted and emergency personnel responded to the scene,” he added. “Students were evacuated from the bus in a safe and orderly manner, and evaluated.”
