1,500 sign petition to make Chenango County a gun-rights sanctuary

NORWICH – Dozens of people attended a Second Amendment meeting in Norwich Thursday night, with organizers encouraging local residents to engage their local government to have Chenango County declared a gun-rights sanctuary.

According to Chenango Libertarian Party Interim County Organization Chair Thomas D. Quiter, this event was led and organized by local activists. One of them, Joe Cirigliano, claims New York State is continuously pushing for more gun regulation of law-abiding citizens, despite already having some of the strictest gun laws in the country.

Quiter said the goal, “…is to gain momentum, raise awareness, and exercise level headed gun rights.”

“[The group] has a petition to move the county to make our county a gun sanctuary, and the plan will eventually go to the county board,” he added.

Those who are interested in learning more about the event or future gun rights activism may visit the Chenango County 2A Sanctuary facebook for additional information.
