NORWICH – At last night’s City of Norwich Common Council meeting, concerned resident Andy Smith requested the council take action to improve road conditions on South Broad Street in Norwich.
"The patch work on that road does not seems to be working, and of course, when they keep plowing it those patches are gonna fly off and that's a pretty bad stretch of road. It's to the point where my whole house shakes when a truck goes by. I'm starting to see some damage on the ceiling where the sheet rock tape is, from my house shaking so much," said Smith.
"I talked to a few of my surrounding neighbors and they're also experiencing the same headaches. It's proving to be very difficult and a discomfort to the people who live on that street."
Smith said that he has found chunks of road in his yard and was concerned about pedestrians who may be out walking getting hit by the road debris.
The Norwich resident noted that they had already taken some action to try to get the road properly fixed before speaking at the meeting.
"I started out by calling the city office first, but it was after hours. Then I called the city garage and they sent me to the state. I called the state, they sent me back to the city. Apparently the city has some contract to maintain the road," said Smith.
