NORWICH – February is American Heart Month, and two local healthcare professionals are using it as an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of heart disease on women in Chenango County.
“Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States,” said Joel Cummings, RN, of UHS Cardiology Norwich.
According to Cummings, women in Chenango County are at particular risk because of lifestyle factors.
“We live in an area with countless recreational activities, yet we have a very high rate of obesity and cardiovascular disease,” he explained.
Cummings and his colleague Melissa Tubolino, RN, will present on the topic of Heart Health tonight at the Bohemian Moon, 103 Main Street in Norwich. The program is part of UHS Chenango Memorial’s 2020 Women’s Health Series, held monthly at the Norwich restaurant.
