SHERBURNE – Representatives of Chobani visited the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District (SECSD) on Tuesday as part of a celebration for the business’s ongoing contributions to children in Chenango County and New York State as a whole.
Members of the New York State School Boards Association also attended the event, and awarded Sherburne-Earlville Central School District and Chobani with a Champions of Change for Kids banner.
According to Sherburne-Earlville High School Assistant Principal Jamie E. Maistros, the school earned a banner for the completion of its Maple Sugar Shack Agricultural Project. She said Chobani received its banner for the company’s generous contribution to children throughout New York State.
Maistros said the ceremony drew students, staff, and special guests to the middle and high school auditorium, including close to 30 members of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program that recently turned a storage shed into a production facility for maple products. FFA members helped to refurbish the one-story wooden building, which operates right across from the Chobani Greenhouse for Sherburne-Earlville.
“We’re so grateful for Chobani’s willingness to make a difference in our community,” said Maistros.
She said SECSD Superintendent Eric Schnabl welcomed representatives from the NYSSBA and Chobani, which also received recognition for assisting local school districts such as S-E, Norwich, Edmeston, Unadilla Valley and several others.
According to SECSD Principal Nicolas Colosi, Chobani’s ongoing contributions have impacted the school in many positive ways over the last five years.
