GREENE – A 16-8 run by the host Greene Trojans allowed the fourth-seeded team to rally back in the third for the lead and ultimately the 61-50 win in the Section IV Class C boys basketball quarterfinal game against number 12 Groton Friday night.
The Groton Indians, who were coming off an upset win over Unatego a few days earlier, were off to a strong start against the fourth-seed Trojans.
Junior guard Kalib Manning of the Indians led the visiting team to a 17-11 first quarter lead as he went off for 13 of the team’s points – including nine from behind the 3-point arc.
In the second quarter, Groton’s scoring came from James Lucey as he tallied nine of the 14 points. Manning was held without points in the stanza until later in the second when he scored two buckets before the halftime buzzer sounded.
