6th Annual Community Seed Swap At The Oxford Winter Farmers’ Market
Published: March 5th, 2020

OXFORD – It’s inevitable that we all buy and save more seeds than we can possibly plant. Seed swaps are a great way to ensure that the seeds we don’t have room to plant can find fertile soil in other gardens.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th, you can bring your extra seeds to the Community Seed Swap table at the Oxford Winter Farmers’ Market, St. Paul’s Community Center, 32 Main Street, Oxford, where you can swap them — along with stories and good advice — for seeds brought by others.

Packets and labels will be supplied, as well as seed catalogs to peruse and books pertaining to organic gardening, composting, and wild foraging.

Story Continues Below Adverts

Event organizers said don’t worry if you don’t have seeds to swap because there are always more than enough. They said swing by the table for free seed packets, and take home something new, unusual, and hardy to our region to plant in your garden.

In addition to all the wonderful vendor offerings, the event will include chefs from the Bohemian Moon & La Maison Blanche will be back to prepare another delicious “Local Lunch”, served up at the community table.

The Four Corners String Band from McDonough will be performing. Band members, Annie Simpson on guitar, Claudia Griffin on fiddle, Patrick Fedele on mandolin, and longtime Market performer, Steve Ellsworth of the Hammerle Hill Fiddlers on fiddle, will be playing a mix of old-time, folk, Celtic and bluegrass tunes.

Organizers said don’t miss this once-a-month chance to stock up on the best of our area’s fresh produce, dairy products, eggs, locally-raised meat, fresh-baked breads, cakes and cookies, maple syrup and honey and jam, as well as handcrafted soaps and body products, cards, tote bags, and alpaca gloves, hats, socks, and scarves -- all from neighbors you can meet, whose hands you can shake.
