NORWICH – The Norwich City School District held the regular board of education meeting yesterday where they discussed recent updates for how they are responding to school closures and continuing education.
The state requested a plan of action from the school detailing how the district will continue education during the shut down, provide food to students, and potentially run a daycare service for first responders and medical personnel.
"There was a decree that came out from the governor’s office yesterday, and we don't know much other than what they're saying, school districts will have to provide daycare for first responders," said Interim Superintendent Diana Bowers. "We don't know exactly what that means. We don't know what kind of hours they're looking for. Their just trying to make it easier for first responders and medical personnel to be able to act."
Bowers discussed the district’s plan for continuing education through the different grade levels.
"The way it looks for the district is Pre-K through fourth grade, we're going to be sending packets and materials home. Teachers can email their classes and embed videos. So there will be continuity of the work that their doing in class thats going to be done basically over email. Fifth through twelfth grade, everybody went home with a device. People will have a device so they can work and do what they need to do at home with their teachers," said Bowers.
