BAINBRIDGE – Thursday the Bainbridge-Guilford School District was informed a staff member had tested positive for Covid-19.

Superintendent Timothy Ryan said he was notified about the confirmed case just after 8 a.m. Thursday. He said a staff member messaged the school about the diagnosis immediately after being informed by a doctor. A short time later the district was then contacted by the Chenango County Department of Health and the case handed over to the Broome County Department of Health, because the infected person is from the Broome area.

“Broome County took over and did a contact trace investigation. They determined there was no exposure to staff or students,” said Ryan.

A call informing parents was sent out Thursday afternoon and the school released information on its Facebook page Friday.

"As stated in previous communications, the district learned on Thursday from the department of health, that there was no contact exposure at school and that there is no risk to staff or students. I ask that you please respect confidentiality laws at this time," said Ryan.

Ryan said the Chenango and Broome health departments were very helpful and provided a lot of information to the school.

At the recommendation of the Chenango County Department of Health the school district, along with all the others in Chenango County, closed Monday. B-G is tentatively scheduled to reopen April 14.

Ryan said the school was in the process of assessing if the opening would happen on April 14 and working with health officials. He said a final determination would be made at a later date.
