ONEONTA – Two athletes from Chenango County competed on the SUNY Oneonta women’s basketball team during this past season. Shelby Benjamin of Norwich (Norwich) and Megan Palmatier of Bainbridge (Bainbridge-Guilford)
Benjamin, a senior for Oneonta majoring in Business Economics, played in 22 games this season and was in the starting lineup for two. She scored 55 points, had 56 rebounds, eight steals and eight blocks.
In her second year on the Red Dragons roster, Palmatier appeared in 19 games. She scored 17 points, pulled down 28 rebounds, dished out six assists and added four steals. The Bainbridge native majors in Adolescent Education.
Oneonta finished with an overall record of 12-14 and 9-9 in the SUNYAC. With their .500 conference record, the Red Dragons qualified for the conference tournament.
Palmatier is also a member of SUNY Oneonta’s softball team. Before the season was cut short, the Red Dragons’ sophomore started in 12 of the 13 games played and held a .333 batting average. With 13 hits, Palmatier picked up four extra base hits and also had a home run recorded on the season.
